Days 6-7
Head East

Something completely different -   Savannah

Savannah is credited as being the first planned city in the United States, This Southern belle is full of charm, and her old-fashioned hospitality and small-town atmosphere invites visitors to stroll back in time.

With one of the country's largest preserved historical urban areas, one can't help but experience a sense of this city's colourful past, as you stroll past grandiose mansions and Spanish moss-covered oaks, sipping mint juleps.

Apart from hundreds of architecturally significant buildings Savannah is also not lacking in restaurants, shops (particularly fine antique stores), Civil War forts, museums, galleries, quaint squares and lovely beaches, all earning it the nickname, 'the Hostess City of the South'.

Of course it is also imperative one try the region's world-famous shrimp that is caught and cooked in a variety of ways. - Remember the famous Bubba, a great friend of Forrest Gumps...
  • River Street along the Savannah River is absolutely beautiful for a stroll.  So many shops and so many places to explore.  The old buildings have stunning architecture and there is a great selection of good restaurants with a wide variety of food from cheap to expensive.
  • Sit on the bench made famous by Forrest Gump in the movie.
  • Savannah's picturesque historic district brings the traditional Southern atmosphere to life. The area is full of small shops, historic homes, small park like squares and lovely churches.
  • For the Historic minded, take a trip to the Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights museum. It documents the history of the Civil Rights Movement in Savannah. Visit Old Fort Jackson, the state's oldest remaining fort includes a number of Civil War and other military exhibits.

Days 8-13
Head South East for some of the most stunning coastline and finest beaches in the world

The Georgia Golden Isles.
6 Nights on the beach - don't mention home yet!

Don't forget to stop along the roadside to pick up some peaches and bags of pecans at their freshest from the locals -and you thought the Wexford traders strawberries were good!

Meander south through the necklace of beautiful islands, St. Simons, Jekyll, Little St. Simons and Sea Island, off Southern Georgia. The last in line, Cumberland Island, is only reachable by boat, but well worth the journey.

Not a lot of people know but Sea Island is where Bertie Ahern wore the famous canary yellow suit among world leaders! It's also where a lot of the PGA players reside, because of the abundance of courses in the neighboring islands.

Stay on Jekyll (our clients favourite) and or St Simons (which we loved ourselves too) where you will experience a luxurious and relaxing stay while enjoying the beaches, golf, food, hospitality and all that the Islands have to offer.
